Sandy Koufax was a Major League Baseball pitcher. He spent his entire career with the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers. He was one of the great pitchers in the game, winning 3 Cy Young Awards, 1 MVP, and three pitchers triple crowns. During his tenure with the Dodgers, they went to six World Series, winning three of them. Koufax pitched in four World Series. He was the first pitcher to win multiple Cy Young Awards. An arthritic elbow forced Koufax to retire at age 30. He was the youngest player ever to be elected to the Hall of Fame.
Koufax was noted for his observant Judaism, even refusing to play in a World Series game scheduled for the first day of Yom Kippur.
