I just followed the lead set by Ed Poor (creator of My Muslim faith and Fifty-seven states). If there was a vote to delete all of these articles and/or to combine them into "Political gaffes", I would be perfectly fine with that. The pause

Watch the clip. There is a noticeable pause before he says, "Pearl Harbor". Do you suppose he was wondering if his notes were correct? Maybe someone in his staff inserted the bomb phrase without his knowledge.

We all know that politicians employ speech writers. Maybe he didn't study the speech beforehand, looking for errors.

I wonder what Ronald Reagan would have done if he saw an error in a prepared text he was reading from. I know what I would do. I would say, "Hm, there seems to be an error in my notes. Give me a moment, please."

I have 7 years experience with online wiki editing. So it would be easy for a guy like me to quickly change "bomb that fell" to "attack". Or maybe I'm just smarter than our President Elect. --Ed Poor ^Talk 11:07, 27 November 2008 (EST)

Or maybe you'd be as prone to making errors in speeches if you were giving three a day for one and a half years on four hours of sleep. Here's a question: were you as critical of President Bush, when he made noticeable gaffes? Or were you silent? No, I wouldn't try to get by with only 4 hours sleep if I had to give a series of important speeches. Yes, I think their should be one standard for political gaffes. Care to help me write such an article? --Ed Poor ^Talk 11:12, 27 November 2008 (EST)

Like any racist gaffe, unpatriotic gaffes are significant. Bush didn't have any. In fact, I can't think of any president other than Obama who had unpatriotic gaffes.--Aschlafly 11:14, 27 November 2008 (EST)

All politicians run themselves ragged. It's not their fault, and they're not slacking. I worked for an MP in England, and he only got four hours of sleep even at age 60 because he was working so hard. It's a hard life. Even though I'm probably more liberal than you, I never teased Bush for his errors, because I understood the stress he was under.

As for the article, I did, Aschlafly just deleted it.

(EC)I fail to see the the lack of patriotism, also. Throw an s on bomb and you have a correct statement. The "muslim faith" thing is understandable due to certain conceptions of Obama, but I think we should chalk this one up as an honest mistake. Jeffrey W. transcription error ?

giving him the benefit of doubt, perhaps this was a simple typing error . If you make bomb plural "the bombs that fell on" it makes more sense. Do we assume a massive lack of common history or a missplaced "s" ? Markr 11:29, 27 November 2008 (EST)
