The House Judiciary Committee is an organ of the House of Representatives entrusted with legislating on important issues of federal law. Like its peer, the Senate Judiciary Committee, the Committee also oversees the appointment of federal judges under Article III of the Constitution. The Committee describes its own jurisdiction as:

The current chairman of the Committee is John Conyers of Detroit, Representative for Michigan's 14th District. Conyers is a Democrat and active in the Black Caucus.
