ATTENTION WEBMASTER!

Sysop Richard has admitted to being a fake! See Andy's page, "We've been had!" I have blocked him, but apparently it does no good because he is a Sysop? Please block him, ASAP. --~ TerryK MyTalk 20:13, 27 March 2007 (EDT)

Image uploading?

User:Horace asked me "I am having trouble uploading an image file. Are you able to help?" I replied that I had no idea... that my own experience is that image uploading is very flaky, I get errors about 2/3 of the time. What I usually do is to keep making random changes in the local filename, and usually I succeed in uploading eventually. Whether changing the name actually helps, I have no idea.

Anyway, I suppose it ought to be brought to your attention. Dpbsmith 20:13, 8 March 2007 (EST)

We are aware of this problem and working for a solution, thanks Conservapedia Webmaster 09:10, 9 March 2007 (EST)

I'd like to help if I can.

Hi, my name is Tom Major. I am a wiki server administrator for about 4 other Christian wikis. I don't really know who's in charge here, but if you guys need any help in that regard (spam, etc), just let me know. The wikis I administer are http://wikible.org, http://theopedia.com, http://creationwiki.org, http://wikichristian.org :-) --Ymmotrojam 19:00, 16 March 2007 (EDT)

New Look

Monobook and Conserv

Thank you kindly for your work with the new skin and for restoring the original Monobook skin as an option for those who prefer the old look. The extra effort is much appreciated :) --Sid 3050 11:33, 18 March 2007 (EDT)

"We The People" logo added

Conservapedia Logo - It is only just readable if you make an effort. I still think it's an improvement. I hope you like it also. --BillOReillyFan 15:13, 18 March 2007 (EDT)

Block

I recommend blocking for infinite duration for vandalism, as in the case of Rjohnson. Thanks.--Aschlafly 17:20, 18 March 2007 (EDT)

User:Rjohnson created this [1], already covered in Guantanamo Bay detention camp. RobS 17:40, 18 March 2007 (EDT)

Accesskeys

I'm not sure if you're the right person to ask about this... if I should ask someone else instead, please let me know.

I support most of the changes recently made to differentiate this wiki from others... However, I noticed that the accesskeys just got removed (eg. alt-j ⇒ Special:Whatlinkshere, alt-k ⇒ Special:Recentchangeslinked, alt-x ⇒ Special:Random, etc). I suppose most people don't rely on these, but I personally use them quite frequently and find it a little distressing to have them missing. Is there any chance they might be able to be restored, since they're unobtrusive and don't contribute much to a site's identity? --Interiot 20:44, 18 March 2007 (EDT)

Ahh, I changed my skin to monobook, and it seems to be working soon after that. Did you do something to fix it?
I have a second question: The page: /archive1 should probably not exist, but while it does, I wanted to point out that this link strangely doesn't turn out correctly. (viewing the page source, I see it appear as <a href="//archive1" ...">, eg. clearly wrong) I don't know if this is a bug within MediaWiki itself, or it's somehow do to some mod_rewrite-ish rules that Conservapedia has written. --Interiot 15:44, 19 March 2007 (EDT)

Javascript extensions

Does this site support monobook.js extensions in Javascript? There are some very useful browsing and editing tools written for MediaWiki, which I'd like to use here. Like Lupin's pop-up's. --Ed Poor 08:15, 20 March 2007 (EDT)

Judging by the source code, Lupin's popups wouldn't actually work over here without modification. Don't know what the copyright situation is there, either. I'll look into it. Tsumetai 08:23, 20 March 2007 (EDT)
I am pretty sure this is already enabled, I'll double check though. Conservapedia Webmaster 09:00, 21 March 2007 (EDT)

I can confirm that this is now enabled, and working as it ought to. Thanks! Tsumetai 09:58, 21 March 2007 (EDT)

Account creation notification

On Wikipedia, when a new user account is created, this shows up on the "recent changes" list. Is there a way to allow this to happen here? This way, when obscenely named or suspicious accounts are created, we could delete them before they do any damage. MountainDew 03:54, 21 March 2007 (EDT)

I'll look into it. Conservapedia Webmaster 08:59, 21 March 2007 (EDT)

Scientific theory of evolution

404.shtml

This has already been discussed in various places, but I thought I should put it here too, since you're the one who's in a position to fix it. When trying to access certain pages, one ends up at 404.shtml instead. This isn't a standard redirect. Interiot has discovered that it happens for any URL ending with the letters 'ico' which leads me to suspect that the culprit is a mistyped RewriteRule in an .htaccess file. There ought to be an exception there for files with .ico extension. If the dot is missing or not escaped properly, that could account for the problem. Tsumetai 12:16, 22 March 2007 (EDT)

Thanks for the tip... I'll let you know once it's fixed. CPWebmaster 12:19, 22 March 2007 (EDT)

Sysop-only page?

As you can see, having just posted on Andy's page, it really is something that is sorely needed. Any idea as to if it is something involved to do, the patch that was posted, etc.? Oh, and do you have a name? Seems silly to only refer to you as Webmaster, but maybe thats how its done. --~ TerryK MyTalk 22:52, 24 March 2007 (EDT)

I posted the link (on Aschlafly's talk page) to the website and the MediaWiki site for the patch that allows certain pages to be made invisible to users without certain permissions. I've also created User:SYSOP and User_talk:SYSOP that could be used for a sysop only talk page, without giving away what the page is through the title, the only thing non-sysops could possibly see. Check it out and see what you think. ColinRtalk 22:57, 24 March 2007 (EDT)
  • Colin, yes, I remember your talking about it. But you said the posts there wouldn't be private, so that is why I was asking the Webmaster, as Andy said he was making a private Sysop page a priority. Are you saying that the pages you made cannot be seen by regular users? --~ TerryK MyTalk 23:02, 24 March 2007 (EDT)
The current page can be seen by other users; to make a sysop only page, the above patch needs to be installed. ColinRtalk 17:53, 25 March 2007 (EDT)

Stub2

Next time, please don't simply delete a template that is being used by 160+ pages. The resulting mess (a "Template:Stub2" red-link appeared in place of the template on all pages that used it) has now been fixed by redirecting the "Stub2" entry to "Stub", so please don't delete the re-created "Stub2" entry. --Sid 3050 08:54, 25 March 2007 (EDT)

Rob Pommer....."Cracker"

Cannot access his account. Hasn't been blocked. Tried to add his email, system never accepted it. That is when his troubles began.

Can you re-set his password and email him? --~ TerryK MyTalk 17:38, 25 March 2007 (EDT)

I just reset his pw and emailed it to him. Sorry about the delay. CPWebmaster 13:41, 26 March 2007 (EDT)

FYI, He messaged me saying he never received the email. Yes, he checked the SPAM. --~ TerryK MyTalk 10:31, 27 March 2007 (EDT)

Conservapedia Panel

May I write a preliminary statement to be delivered to this "panel" of high school students? I would hope that you would extend me that courtesy, especially since this is a quasi-adjudicative panel, where I worry about the presentation of my "side." Please feel free to respond on my talk page or by e-mailing me at ames@nyu.edu.-AmesGyo 19:01, 26 March 2007 (EDT)

Sure, go ahead. We are still working out the particulars of submitting conflicts, etc. As you probably guessed. CPWebmaster 22:51, 26 March 2007 (EDT)
Great. When would you need it by?-AmesGyo! 10:30, 27 March 2007 (EDT)
CPWebmaster, please refer here for the completed petition whenever you need it. Be aware that this has been begun at 10:45 EST 27 March 2005, you shouldn't expect anything remarkable for a bit, until a lot of good users see it.-AmesGyo! 10:46, 27 March 2007 (EDT)

Intelligent Design

Hi. I'm a new syosop here, and I'd like to reduce the protection of Intelligent design one notch, so non-sysops can edit it. I will watch it zealously and roll back any ill-considered changes. Okay? --Ed Poor 13:13, 27 March 2007 (EDT)

Debate topics

It would be helpful to have a Debate namespace for these pages. People keep mistaking them for normal articles. I've created a template to prevent that, but it requires editors creating new topics to do so correctly, or someone else to fix them later. A dedicated namespace would make life a little easier, and it may even be possible to write a Special page to automatically catalogue them. Tsumetai 08:53, 28 March 2007 (EDT)

Conservapedia:Request Unprotection

I see that Conservapedia:Request Unprotection was deleted... is there a better place to request unprotection of pages once their problems have passed? Currently, it seems like there are a number of pages that remain protected for a very long time without an obvious reason (eg. Jesus for 33 days with an edit summary of "temporary protection", abortion for 26 days, George W. Bush for 16 days, Talk:Canadian newspapers for 16 days, Dick Cheney for 14 days, Biblical creation account for 14 days, Talk:18 USC § 1030 for 9 days, Fox News Channel for 9 days with an edit summary of "Will remove in couple of days", etc...). Without users being able to point these out, it seems likely that they'd remain protected for an extended period of time. If there's no other better venue, could Conservapedia:Request Unprotection be restored? --Interiot 14:53, 28 March 2007 (EDT)

  • So, because you deem whatever problem there was is past, that should be the deciding factor in opening them? There are some topics so problematic here, like on other on-line, user edited encyclopedia's, I rather suspect, like there, they will never be opened to general user editing. But I feel confident, Interiot, that there are tens of thousands of topics not yet created, or needing more than their one sentence, that could use your attention.  ;-) --~ TerryK MyTalk 17:55, 28 March 2007 (EDT)
    • Conservapedia:Request Unprotection is a place where requests, not demands, should be placed. And Wikipedia has never had an article that was permanently protected from logged-in users. And I thought this was a wiki, where volunteers in good standing could be treated with a bit of respect and in a less patronizing manner, but I was mistaken. --Interiot 21:32, 28 March 2007 (EDT)
  • Perhaps there is some way the wikiware could be modified so as to set a "default" lock time (unless otherwise lengthened or shortened) that would bring locked articles back "online" to be edited. There might also be a way to send a notice to sysops that protected articles are going to be coming online, just to be on the safe side. -- Rob PommerTALK 21:42, 28 March 2007 (EDT)
  • The user knows they are fibbing, merely stirring the pot. Nothing was deleted. It was moved to the Talk page. Tread lightly, Interiot. Deliberate distortion isn't tolerated here. --~ TerryK MyTalk 01:07, 30 March 2007 (EDT)
  • Your reference to deliberate distortion is ironic in light of your comment directed at me on talk:Request_Unprotection. --Horace 01:42, 30 March 2007 (EDT)

Are you still crying? Rent a sense of humor. I'm not your enemy here. Ask Ed. --~ TerryK MyTalk 01:49, 30 March 2007 (EDT)

Crying? I was just pointing out an irony. And if by Ed you mean dear Ed Poor, I do hope that you are not saying that he regards me as an enemy. Whilst he is clearly easily excited, I had assumed that his blocking me (twice) was a result of youthful inexperience on his part. Are you suggesting otherwise? --Horace 01:57, 30 March 2007 (EDT)

I've never seen anyone so paranoid, and gets things so mixed up, lol. That wasn't being mean, just laughing. I suggested you check with Ed as to if I was the "enemy". I am sure whatever reason he gave for blocking you was the honest truth. I don't see the irony, about what I said....sometimes with age, comes a fog. As I said above, I was commenting on Interiot. --~ TerryK MyTalk 02:47, 30 March 2007 (EDT)
