West Side Story is a musical based on Romeo and Juliet, with lyrics and score by Stephen Sondheim and Leonard Bernstein. The Capulets and Montagues of Shakespeare's classic play are replaced with ethnic groups represented by rival street gangs[1] in Manhattan.
