The 1992 Los Angeles riots took place mainly in south-central LA after the acquittal of some of the police officers involved in the Rodney King incident.

The most famous single incident from the riots was the assault of Reginald Denny, a white construction worker, by black rioters. The beating resulted in permanent injury for Denny.

Maxine Waters, the Congresswoman for Los Angeles, had also been involved in the riots, where she gave a strongly worded speech where she essentially sided with the rioters.[1] This would later be repeated during the Derek Chauvin trial in Minneapolis nearly three decades later where she proceeded to give a speech to various Black Lives Matter protestors that made clear they are to riot if the jury gave any sentence to Chauvin that wasn't "guilty" in a blatant attempt at intimidating the jury into convicting Chauvin.
