The Boeing E-3 Sentry is an American airborne early warning and control aircraft. It is commonly referred to as AWACS (an acronym for Airborne Warning and Control System), the plane's sophisticated airborne radar system designed to detect aircraft, ships, and vehicles at long ranges and to perform offensive command and control of the battlespace in an air engagement, which resembles a giant round table atop the plane.
