Founded in 1964, The American Conservative Union (ACU) is the nation's oldest and largest conservative lobbying organization. The ACU's purpose is to communicate and advance the goals and principles of conservatism through one multi-issue, umbrella organization. ACU's Statement of Principles expresses their commitment to a market economy, the doctrine of original intent of the framers of the U.S. Constitution, traditional moral values, and a strong national defense.

The ACU runs the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

The ACU publishes a widely used annual index of conservative voting for all members of Congress.
