Asbury University
Asbury University is a private Christian university located in Wilmore, Kentucky.
Like the more well-known Hillsdale College, it does not take funding from government sources.
History
It was founded in 1890 by John Hughes, a Methodist circuit preacher. It was founded within the Wesleyan Holiness tradition but is not formally affiliated with any denomination (however, it has a working agreement with the newly formed Global Methodist Church).

The university operates under six schools:
- College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences
- School of Sciences
- School of Business
- School of Communication Arts
- School of Education
- School of Christian Studies
Athletics
The university (team name: Eagles) participates at the NCAA Division III level.
Revivals
Throughout its history, Asbury has experienced numerous moves of the Holy Spirit leading to revival.[1]
Among notable revival events was a 1970 movement which spread to many universities (Christian and secular) around the nation.[2]
The most recent revival event took place in February 2023, almost 53 years to the week of the 1970 revival event.[3] The revival went on for roughly two weeks, bringing so many visitors that local law enforcement had to completely close the entire city to outsiders due to traffic and logistical issues. Eventually the university ended public services (and the last official service hosted was the National Collegiate Day of Prayer, which held its 200th anniversary and had planned two years earlier to have Asbury be the 2023 host university) so it could return to its mission as a university.
