Aslan Maskhadov (September 21, 1951 - March 8, 2005) was a Chechen commander and politician, who served as the 3rd President of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria from 1997 until 2000. He became the face of the guerilla resistance until his killing in 2005, possibly being killed by a grenade.
