Black babies

Black babies with white doctors had lower survival rates than those with black doctors, and researchers initially concluded that it was because of race. Other researchers using data from the same study found that the babies treated by the white doctors had significant lower birth weight. [2]

"A striking pattern appears in the raw data. About 0.3% of white newborns died before being discharged from the hospital, regardless of whether their doctor was white or black. For black newborns, however, mortality varied dramatically by physician race: 0.9% for those cared for by white physicians after birth, but just 0.4% for those with black physicians." Manhattan Institute

As is well known, low birth weight is one of the biggest causes of infant death.

"Low birth weight (LBW) and preterm birth (PTB) are major causes of infant mortality and leading contributors to health complications among infants in the United States (US). In 2015, 8.1% of all infants born in the US were LBW and 9.6% were born prematurely." Maternal Child Health Journal

A critique of the study pointed to "omitted variable bias" and speculated that peer reviewers may not have been familiar with newborn babies. Also, the article was published only 2 months after the highly publicized death of George Floyd.
