Carpentry is the skill and art of working with wood, or more specifically, the crafting of useful objects out of wood. A person who engages in carpentry is called a carpenter. Carpentry is one of the building trades.

Carpenters range in the level of accuracy they work to, from framing through finish carpentry to cabinetwork. These can roughly be described by the tolerances they work to, from about +/- 1/8" for framing, +/- 1/32" in finish work, to sometimes microscopic tolerances (thousandths of an inch) in fine cabinetry.
