Bernie Sanders is not now, nor has he ever been, an Independent. Bernie is a socialist, which is as partisan as a person can get.

An "Independent" historically in American politics refers to a non-partisan or apolitical voter. Some states, by law, have lumped all third party and un-affiliated candidates under a heading of "Independent" on the ballot (if a third party itself fails to achieve a requite number of signatures to achieve ballot status). Sanders has held membership in multiple socialist organizations for half a century. Just because he registered for ballot status in Vermont under the heading "Independent", or the liberal communist media refers to him as "Independent", does not make him an Independent party candidate or Independent, non-aligned candidate, when his entire career and speeches make clear the exact opposite.

If anything, Sanders has defamed and maligned the movement of Independent voters in the United States. RobSDe Plorabus Unum 14:30, 12 September 2019 (EDT)
