Christopher Harborne
Christopher Harborne is a British-Thai oligarch, technology investor, and significant donor to UK political parties, with influential roles in aviation, cryptocurrency, and defense sectors.
Leaked documents from former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson's private office—known as the "Boris Files"—reveal a £1 million donation from Harborne to Johnson's personal company shortly after Johnson left office, followed by Harborne's inclusion on a high-profile trip to Ukraine. This has raised ethical concerns about a conflict of interest, given Harborne's stakes in defense firms supplying weapons to Ukraine. The revelations question whether Johnson's advocacy for Ukraine blurred lines between public diplomacy and private financial gain.[3]
QinetiQ's involvement dates back to 2014, when it began training Ukrainian combat engineers on its systems following Russia's annexation of Crimea. Post-2022, supplies have accelerated, driven by the war's demands for asymmetric warfare tools like drones and robots, which help offset Russia's numerical superiority in ground forces. As of October 2025, QinetiQ's Ukraine-related efforts have contributed to a surge in its global sales, with battlefield robotics and communications systems seeing particular demand.
QinetiQ Group plc, a UK-based defense and security technology company, has been actively supporting Ukraine's armed forces since Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022. The firm's contributions focus on unmanned systems, robotics, and additive manufacturing technologies, often through partnerships with governments and contractors. These supplies enhance Ukraine's capabilities in explosive ordnance disposal (EOD), surveillance, reconnaissance, and rapid prototyping of spare parts amid supply chain disruptions. While QinetiQ does not directly sell arms as a primary trader, its technologies are integrated into broader NATO and UK aid packages.
Ukraine war has "turbo-charged" QinetiQ's revenue, with JPMorgan raising price targets to 570p in March 2025 amid European rearmament. H1 2022 revenue up due to robot/comms demand.
QinetiQ's largest individual shareholder (13%), Christopher Harborne, donated £1M to Boris Johnson's post-office company in 2022, followed by Harborne joining Johnson on a 2023 Ukraine trip.
