Electro-Motive Diesel

Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) is a major builder of diesel locomotives for railroads. It is a subsidiary of Progress Rail which is a subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc. EMD's headquarters is at LaGrange, near Chicago, Illinois.[1]
History
EMD was formerly the Electro Motive Division of General Motors. In 2005, GM sold EMD to private equity groups.[2] EMD was sold again in 2010 to Progress Rail, a subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc.[3]
