Guanacos (Lama guanicoe) are small camelids native to the high Andean grasslands (altiplano) of Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Chile and Argentina. Larger than a vicuña and smaller than a llama, the guanaco has a soft undercoat, which is almost as fine as that of the alpaca, but less abundant.
