Gulf of Oman
The Gulf of Oman is an important waterway linking the Arabian Sea to the Persian Gulf, bordered by Oman to the south, Iran to the north, and Pakistan to the east. It sits at the southeastern edge of the Arabian Peninsula. It forms a transitional body of water between the Arabian Sea to the east and the Strait of Hormuz to the west, which then leads into the Persian Gulf. It is roughly 200–300 miles wide depending on the point measured, with deep waters that accommodate large commercial vessels. Major ports include Muscat and Sohar in Oman, Chabahar in Iran, and Gwadar in Pakistan—each tied to regional economic and infrastructure projects. It serves as the main maritime corridor for Gulf states exporting to Asia, Europe, and the rest of the planet.
