H. R. 1, also known as the For The People Act is a bill in the United States which would create a dominant party system where it is very difficult for opposition parties to take power. It would declare election day to be a federal holiday, which would tell people to celebrate instead of going to the polls. As this discourages voting, in favor of other activities, it could be viewed as voter suppression. It would also place the assignment of House districts to a federal commission. This would allow gerrymandering on a scale never seen before in favor of the party in the government, currently the Democratic Party, and essentially guaranty that the legislative branch of the US government would remain under Democrat rule independently. Constitutional Scholars consider this bill to be the greatest threat to American democracy the country has seen in years.[1]

On the 4th of March in 2021, the bill passed through the house.
