HB 379 is a bill introduced in the Alabama House of Representatives in 2019 which sought to require chemical castration for convicted child molesters who commit a sexual offense on someone under the age of 13.[1] Sponsored by state representative Steve Hurst, it drew strong support in the Alabama House of Representatives and unanimous approval in the Alabama Senate before Governor Kay Ivey signed it into law.[2]

The American Civil Liberties Union has openly challenged the bill, citing it as "cruel and unusual punishment".[3] Note that the ACLU strongly supports abortion,[4] which, unlike the purpose of HB 379, unjustly attacks the innocent.
