Henry Middleton

Henry Middleton was a member of the legislature of South Carolina during the years just prior to the American Revolution. He served as the second president of the Continental Congress. Middleton was opposed to independence from Britain, and returned to service in his home state.

He was the father of Arthur Middleton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
