Huntington Ingalls Industries
Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) is an American shipbuilder and technical services provider.
Its major operations are in Newport News, Virginia (Newport News Shipbuilding), Pascagoula, Mississippi (Ingalls Shipbuilding), and McLean, Virginia (Mission Systems). Newport News is also the home of The Apprentice School, a fully licensed and accredited trade school (which also participates in intercollegiate athletics) for future employees (students are hired as employees and pay no tuition except for a 2% pay deduction for various student fees).
In a rare case of a company having both a monopoly and being subject to a monopsony, HII's Newport News facility is the only one in America which manufactures, overhauls, and deactivates aircraft carriers. The Newport News facility is also one of only two in America capable of building nuclear submarines (Electric Boat, a subsidiary of General Dynamics, is the other).
