Population statistics

The Imperial Amazon parrot (Amazona imperialis), also known as the Sisserou, is the largest parrot in the genus Amazona, measuring about 18 inches long. Like most Amazona parrots, it is mostly green, but it has a unique purple head and chest, setting it apart from related species.

It is restricted to the Caribbean island of Dominica, where it is the national bird, even appearing on the national flag. Because of its restricted range, it is endangered, but it is protected by Dominican law.
