Joaquín Sorolla, Self Portrait.

Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida (1863 - 1923) was a Spanish Realist/Impressionist painter. The most prolific of his time with over 2,200 cataloged works. He painted portraits, landscapes and works on life in Spain, and of social and historical themes, as well as book illustrations.

He was from Valencia, but he had an international reputation and showed his works in major exhibitions throughout Europe and America... He was particularly skilled at creating light effects in a manner distinct from that of the Impressionists. [1]
