The John Hancock Committee for the States is the original Con Con/Convention of States organization formed in 2010 with Tim Dunn as its principal officer. A few large donors contributed about $1 million to this new organization in its first year of operation, and spent almost as much. It did business as the Self-Governance Institute.

One of its four initial directors, in addition to Dunn, was Eric O'Keefe, who acts as the front person for the Koch brothers in managing their dark money attempts to influence politics.[1]
