Public outcry was widespread, and even President Bill Clinton publicly criticized the positive depiction of drug use as dangerous for impressionable young girls. It was later revealed that Moss had a long history abusing cocaine, with photographs documenting her abuse. Yet, in true form for fashion industry values, her popularity and assets doubled upon revelation of the drug abuse photos. Also, now that she is older, she has openly accused the fashion industry for pushing her to be too thin.
