Kylo Ren

Kylo Ren is a character in the Star Wars film series, first appearing in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He is played by Adam Driver.

Story

Kylo Ren was once known as Ben Solo, the son of Han Solo and Leia Organa. He was born in the first few years following the fall of the Galactic Empire in Return of the Jedi. As he got older, he would be trained to become a Jedi by his uncle, Luke Skywalker. However, during his training, he began to fall to the Dark Side, taking with him Luke's other students. Together, they formed the Knights of Ren. He would begin to be trained by Supreme Leader Snoke, who would go on to form the First Order. Meanwhile, Luke would go into self-imposed exile, feeling responsible for what happened due to nearly killing Ben while the latter was asleep. Ren would join the First Order, being an enforcer, a role his grandfather, Anakin Skywalker had in the days of the Empire. Kylo Ren possesses the burnt remains of Darth Vader's helmet after his armor was cremated on Endor. It is unknown how he came into possession of the helmet, but it could be assumed he received it from Luke, or possibly, Snoke. Ren idolizes Darth Vader, seeing him as what he could be if he was able to completely turn to the Dark Side. Unlike Vader, however, Kylo Ren tended to engage in violent and extremely destructive temper-tantrums when enraged at setbacks. However, part of him is still drawn to the Light Side. In The Force Awakens, Ren finally confronts his father, Han Solo. He tells Han there's something he needs to do, but isn't sure if he has the strength to do it. Han agrees to help him, regardless. However, this deed Ren feels he needs to do is to kill Han, which he does by impaling him with his lightsaber. He then dueled Rey, although he ended up beaten by her despite her being a novice to the ways of the Force, let alone lightsaber combat.

He was later recovered by General Hux on Snoke's orders shortly before Starkiller Base's destruction, and brought to the Supremacy. There, he was scolded by Snoke for his failure to prevent Starkiller Base's destruction. He later participated in the pursuit of the Resistance fleet as the latter was low on fuel, although he hesitated to blow up the bridge due to sensing his mother, Leia, onboard. He later was subject to a Force bond via Snoke with Rey, as a means of luring her to the Supremacy and finding Luke's location. However, he ultimately killed Snoke, though he refused to defect to the Resistance. He later became the next Supreme Leader of the First Order, and led the forces to Crait to rout the remaining Resistance forces, although due to Luke's interference via projection, a handful of survivors were ultimately able to escape.

Lightsaber

Kylo Ren's lightsaber is not considered well made. The hilt is not as refined as others seen in the films, and when ignited, generates three blades: the main blade, and two smaller ones on the hilt that act as a cross-guard of sorts. The blade looks rather unstable compared to others, and it could be implied that Ren did not necessarily know what he was doing when he constructed it.
