La Serena is a Chilean city located in the north of Chile in the Coquimbo Region. It has plenty of beaches that are visited by tourists on summer. The city was founded by the Spanish conqueror Pedro de Valdivia in 1549 and reconstructed by Francisco de Aguirre. The icon of the city is the La Serena lighthouse.
