The Maxine Waters phone prank was a gag pulled off by Russian pranksters who played a practical joke on California congresswoman Maxine Waters, impersonating Greta Thunberg and her father.

Background

Two Russian pranksters, Vladimir Kuznetsov (a.k.a. Vovan) and Alexey Stolyarov (a.k.a. Lexus) launched a project called "Stars Save the Planet" and plan to discuss it with celebrities to "save the planet".

Call

The pranksters started the call by "introducing" themselves as Greta Thunberg and her father. "Greta" then proceeded to discuss about protecting the ecology of "Chunga Chonga island".

They pretended to be at a protest in North Carolina, where "Greta" has access to a speakerphone to allow people to hear Maxine Waters via the phone call. Waters proceeded to give a "speech" on Greta's request, which elicited a faked applause staged by the pranksters.

"Greta" then went on to talk about seeing Trump in September 2019 in a United Nations building and having "nightmares" over what Trump supposedly said. She and her father then proceeded to claim that Trump admitted to pressuring Ukraine but told her that no one would believe her. They claimed to have an audio recording of such thing and offered to bring it to the congresswoman. The prank call ended shortly after.

Media response

Several media outlets published articles covering the prank.[1][2]
