Michael Anthony Fesi, Sr., known as Big Mike Fesi (born May 20, 1959), is a petroleum and natural gas entrepreneur from Houma, Louisiana, who is also a Republican state senator for District 20, which encompasses Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes.
On January 13, 2020, Fesi will succeed term-limited Democrat-turned Republican Senator Norby Chabert of Lil Caillou community in Terrebonne Parish. To win the seat, Fesi polled 15,546 votes (54 percent) in the nonpartisan blanket primary held on October 12, 2019. He defeated two other Republicans and two Democrats. The runner-up, Damon J. Baldone, who polled 5,162 votes (18 percent), is a former Democrat who turned Republican to make the race. In third place was a departing Democratic state Representative, Jerry "Truck" Gisclair (born 1948) of Larose in Lafourche Parish, who received 4,070 votes (14 percent).[1] A self-declared "common-sense conservative," Fesi is the founder and chairman of Pipeline Construction & Maintenance, Inc., a service company headquarted in Houma. The company has created thousands of jobs over two decades. He and his wife, the former Carla Davidson, have four children and eleven grandchildren.[2]
Fesi said that as a state senator, he will work to protect oil and gas jobs in the state, oppose further tax increases, protect the Gulf of Mexico coastline, and fully fund Nicholls State University in Thibodaux and Fletcher Community College in Houma. He is also pro-life.[2]
On October 14, 2023, Fesi won Senate reelection with 88 percent of the vote against another Republican, David Carskadon.[3]
