Nicholas Young (b. 1980[1]) is a Muslim convert,[2] with interest in both Islamic radicalism and Nazism[1] who used to dress up as a Nazi officer in reenactments and had the logo of an SS unit tattooed on his arm. He was a Washington, D.C. area police officer (a patrol officer in the D.C. region’s Metrorail system[3]), who has been labeled both a terrorist sympathizer and white supremacist and was convicted in Dec 2017[1] of helping the Islamic State militant group (ISIS) and obstructing justice.[4]

“

Nicholas Young, a District of Columbia Metro Transit Police officer, was arrested by the FBI ... He was a neo-Nazi and jihadist. In his house, investigators found a handwritten prayer for ‘Hitler, Skorzeny, Hajj Amin al-Hussaini, Mussolini, Saddam Hussein, .. Muhamed, John the Baptist & all the Companions.’

At these intersecting ideologies of antisemitic vitriol, Young was easily able to synthesize neo-Nazism and jihadism. In his house, investigators found a handwritten prayer for “Hitler, Skorzeny, Hajj Amin al-Hussaini, Mussolini, Saddam Hussein, ... Muhamed, John the Baptist & all the Companions.” Otto Skorzeny was an Austrian colonel in the Waffen-SS who later fled to Egypt, where he trained Palestinian paramilitary forces (with Yasser Arafat counted among his trainees) to conduct raids into Israel. Grand Mufti of Jerusalem

”

This Muslim convert, Young, is the first law enforcement officer in the United States to be arrested and convicted for supporting a terrorist group.[2]

He first faced up to 60 years in prison.[1] In 2019, federal appeals court tossed out the obstruction convictions and ordered a new sentencing hearing. It reimposed the 15 year term, saying Young's conduct remains troubling.[6]

Among items introduced were:

“ a poster Young had downloaded in 2007 depicting a Nazi shaking hands with the Mufti of Jerusalem—who had allied himself with Adolf Hitler and recruited Muslim troops to serve in the SS—titled “The Alliance: Worldwide Association of Nazis and Islamists 1939–2004,” Response Br. 35; photos of the Mufti and Hitler as well as the Mufti and Muslim SS troops; Young’s prayer list, which included Hitler and the Mufti; a 2007 photo on his computer of Muslim women with a sign saying, “God Bless [sic. His sign:] Hitler,” J.A. 1636; a copy of Young’s Facebook page from 2011, in which Young linked to a story about the arrest of neo-Nazi turned jihadist Emerson Begolly; and a 2014 graphic on his phone with the words, “Together, we can finish what Hitler started,” J.A. 1633.[7] ”

Earlier

Previously, in interviews with FBI officers and conversations with undercover agents between 2010 and 2015, Young disclosed that he tortured animals as a child, was a collector of Nazi memorabilia, and dressed up as "Jihadi John[8]" for a party. In addition, Young expressed support for the January 2015 Charlie Hebdo attacks in Paris, boasted that he would decapitate anyone who betrayed him, and provided counsel on avoiding issues at Turkish border control.[2]

Young is originally from the State of Va.
