Operation Bucharest (comic)
Operation Bucharest is a full-length (32 pp.) comic written by Jack Chick. It was originally printed in 1974 and remains in-stock. Unlike their tracts, it is not available for free viewing on the Chick Publications website; it can only be purchased either in print or electronic form.
The comic is the first of a 22-comic series titled "The Crusaders".
The comic, set in Romania during the 1960's when it was a Communist country controlled by the Soviet Union, is a fictional account of a Bible-smuggling operation. The Crusaders are asked to travel to Bucharest (the capital city) and deliver a microfilm to a fellow believer (working underground) so that Bibles can be produced in the Romanian language.
While obtaining their passports, upon learning that Clark is the nephew of a United States Ambassador, it is revealed that the clerk secretly works for the KGB and notifies them of his planned trip. The KGB decides they will try to entrap Clark into a sexual scandal, then publicize the event to make it appear that the Ambassador is the guilty party and demand his removal. However, their efforts fail as "Sofia" (the young woman sent to entrap Clark) is led to Christian faith (in the final frames she is arrested and sent to jail for her beliefs).
