Paul Clement
Paul Clement (born Cedarburg, Wisconsin June 1966) was asked by President G. W. Bush to head the Department of Justice until a new Attorney General is nominated. He was named upon the resignation of Alberto Gonzales.
Paul Clement received his bachelor's degree summa cum laude from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, and a master's degree in economics from Cambridge University.
Clement is the Justice Department’s highest-ranking official who has been confirmed by the Senate. Currently he is the Solicitor General, tasked to conduct all litigation on behalf of the United States in the Supreme Court and to supervise the handling of litigation in the federal appellate courts. There he has defended Bush’s anti-terrorism program as well as federal laws imposing limits on abortion and campaign fundraising.
Paul Clement once belonged to the conservative Federalist Society.
