Phillip DeVillier
Phillip Ryan DeVillier (pronounced DEH VILL E A) (born June 18, 1976)[1] is the Republican Speaker of the Louisiana House of Representatives. He was endorsed for the position by Governor Jeff Landry; in Louisiana, the governor's choice for both House Speaker and Senate President is usually elected by all the members. Now in his third term, DeVillier represents District 41, which encompasses Acadia, Evangeline, and St. Landry parishes in South Louisiana. On January 11, 2016, he succeeded the term-limited Democrat Representative Mickey Guillory.

In the October 24, 2015 primary election, DeVillier led a three-candidate field with 6,308 votes (55.8 percent). He defeated another Republican, former Representative Gregory L. Fruge, who polled 3,036 votes (26.9 percent), and Democrat Germaine Simpson, who finished with 1,956 votes (17.3 percent).[2]
DeVillier was reared in Eunice, located on the border of Evangeline and St. Landry parishes. A house mover from St. Landry Parish, he and his wife have three children.
Upon becoming Speaker, DeVillier revealed himself in the tradition of the Louisiana Republican Fraud Squad, which in 2020 cemented a Moderate Republican-Democrat legislative majority, shutting out GOP conservatives. DeVillier surrendered five House committees to the small minority of Democrats. One of his selections, Regina Barrow, is the new House Pro Tempore. She is an avid supporter of Barack Obama and Joe Biden.[3]
