Purple Rain (song)

Purple Rain is the title track from the album of the same name, written and performed by Prince, and was the soundtrack for the movie of the same name where he was the lead actor.

Though it only reached #2 on the US Billboard charts, it is one of his most notable songs for two reasons: 1) his performance during the 2007 Super Bowl halftime show (where he played it as the last song, during a driving rainstorm and with purple lights on the stage, making it appear as if there was a real "purple rain"); the performance is widely considered the best Super Bowl halftime show of all time, and 2) it was the last song he would perform before his death (in Atlanta on April 14, 2016; he would pass a week later in his Minneapolis home).
