Salford

Salford is a cathedral city in Lancashire, England, approximately three miles north-west of Manchester city centre. It lies to the west of the River Irwell.
Historically the textile industry was important to the city’s economy, based around the Manchester Ship Canal. The Salford Quays area has undergone major regeneration including new housing and businesses.
The Manchester Metrolink tram system serves Salford Quays. The city’s mainline railway stations are Salford Central and Salford Crescent.
Salford City Reds are an English rugby league club. Salford City Football Club play regional football (soccer).
Its population is 72,750 (2001).
