Signs is the name of a 2002 movie about an alien invasion of Earth that results in a former Anglician priest rediscovering his faith after his wife was killed after being hit by a car. In the beginning of the movie, Graham Hess (Gibson) lives on a farm with his younger brother Merrill (Joaquin Phoenix) and his kids Morgan and Bo. Crop circles appear in their fields and all over the world and strange figures appear on their rooftops in the days before the invasion. After the aliens invade, the family takes shelter in the house and several signs which come together allow Graham and Merril to defeat the aliens.

The movie was both praised and criticized by Christian groups. On one hand, the movie showed that a minister regained his faith after experiencing signs from God which allowed him to defeat the aliens. It was criticized for having aliens in the movie which many Christians believe don't exist and is blasphemous. There is also some foul language in the movie but it is tame compared to most secular movies.
