Back in 2012, I was a senior editor on Wikipedia and could boast tens of thousands of edits as well as a clean eight-year track record. I spent much of my time in a forum called "requested moves." There I promoted the use of conventional English in titles, and opposed unnecessary reliance on foreign languages. (Wikipedia has a lot of editors from Europe who are partial to non-English terminology and spellings.) I was eventually blocked over an article I wrote about Sino-Vietnamese characters. This is a highly obscure subject. I am pretty sure the article would not have been remotely controversial if anyone else wrote it. The idea was to get me out of the way so a [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Archive252#Ban_proposal:_Kauffner banning discussion could be held] without my interference. This discussion was full of people I'd never heard of up to that point, and none of them bothered to explain why they would care about my case. Someone must have canvassed them together. The article that triggered the discussion is barely mentioned.
