Prince Charles, eldest son of Queen [[Elizabeth II]], is the next in line to the British throne, and is currectly [[Prince of Wales]]. When he accedes to the throne he would, in theory, be Charles III, but he has indicated that he may adopt the name George VII instead. The most recent two British kings, [[Edward VIII]] and [[George VI]] likewise adopted names that were not their first names, which were David and Albert respectively. Upon the accession of Elizabeth II it was widely assumed that she would adopt the name Mary III, but she surprised commentators by insisting on using her real first name.
