I would say he is a 17 century Founding Father who had enormous impact on the later formed Continental Congress. The Founding fathers where not actually devout Christians. They were actually deist,or at least Christian deist. Yes indeed they have made quotes about God and the Bible but at the same time,some of them made quotes that are critical of Christianity.

You must admit that most of them were actually deist.
