Founded in the middle 1940s by the Bible Memory Association, Southland was known as Miracle Camp, which closed in the early 1990s because of financial problems. The retreat is located on a 23-acre lake off U.S. Route 371 north of Ringgold. Southland subsequently obtained the property with help of the Tri-City Baptist Church of Blue Springs, Missouri.<ref{{cite web|url=http://www.southlandcamp.org/about-us.html|title=About Us: Southland Christian Ministries|publisher=southlandcamp.org|accessdate=January 29, 2017}}</ref>
