Michael Dale Herbster, known as Mike Herbster (born March 24, 1974),[1] is an Independent Baptist clergyman who has been since 2008 the director of Southland Christian Ministries located north of Ringgold in Bienville Parish in north Louisiana.
Biography
Reared in Independence, near Kansas City, Missouri, Herbster holds a degree in music and a Master of Arts in pastoral studies. Since 1992, he has spent every summer in camp ministry. He formerly traveled in full-time evangelism with his twin brother, Mark D. Herbster. He came to Southland in 2003 to lead music and work in administration. Five years later, he was named the camp director.[2]
Founded in the middle 1940s by the Bible Memory Association, Southland was known as Miracle Camp, which closed in the early 1990s because of financial problems. The retreat is located on a 23-acre lake off U.S. Route 371 north of Ringgold. Southland subsequently obtained the property with help of the Tri-City Baptist Church of Blue Springs, Missouri.[3]
The Southland website describes itself as "a multiplication ministry":
We desire to build lasting relationships centered around our unified commitment to Christ. We desire to promote true discipleship for Christ through straightforward teaching of the Word of God, one-on-one confrontation, life example, and encouragement for lasting personal growth. We emphasize the importance of disciplined living, persevering through suffering, and being devoted to knowing God and following His path. Discipleship ministry involves giving all for the sake of another’s spiritual growth.[3]

Mark Herbster holds a Bachelor of Arts in Bible from the fundamentalist Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina. In the summer of 2018, he will become dean of Maranatha Baptist Seminary and its school of Bible and church ministries. The institution is located in Watertown in southeastern Wisconsin. He is a candidate for the Doctor of Ministry degree from Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Shawnee, Kansas. Mark Herbster is the father of four daughters.[4] A third Herbster brother, Matthew Dean "Matt" Herbster (born August 3, 1972),[5] is the father of five children and resides in Brevard, North Carolina. He is the widower of Julie Ann Herbster (1973-2013), who died of a ten-month battle with colon cancer.[6] In 2014, Matthew Herbster married his second wife, Tiffany. Since 1997, he has served on the staff of The Wilds Christian Camp and Conference Center in Brevard. He was elevated to director not long after the passing of Julie in 2013.[7]
The Herbster brothers are sons of Carl Dean Herbster (born September 13, 1950), the former senior pastor of the Tri-City Baptist Church, and his wife, Diane Herbster.[8]
Mike and Mark Herbster both have wives named Amy. Mike Herbster's wife also grew up in Kansas City and holds a degree in music education. The couple married in 1996 and has two sons, Micah and Malachi, and two daughters, Michala, and McKenna.
Mike and Mark Herbster and their wives have recorded quartets, male/female duets, and male duets. Many selections are fully orchestrated and includes many songs from their evangelistic meetings nationwide.[9] Mike, Mark, and Matthew Herbster have produced a 2-CD set, Resting: A Memorial, as a memorial to Julie Herbster. The first disc includes songs that encouraged her and her family during her illness. The second disc offers Julie giving her testimony of God's grace and her funeral oration.[8]
