This idea is batty in so many ways. What is supposed to happen if a president is found guilty? The Secret Service will protect him in prison while the Federal Marshals prevent him from escaping? How will he receive a "petition for redress of grievances," as the First Amendment requires? Perhaps Warren assumes that the president will be shamed into resigning like Nixon. That would make the special counsel the ultimate authority in our system, the guy who can overturn a presidential election. Mueller has shown us that we cannot count on special counsels to behave responsibly. How is it appropriate for Rosenstein to supervise an investigation of Comey's firing, which he himself participated in? The office is extraconstitutional and the special counsel regulation should be recinded.
