Communism rejects the concept of natural law -- that rights ultimately come from God, not humans or their governments and, thus, that government cannot change or take away rights and freedoms. That's why communist countries usually (if not always) severely restrict free speech, religious freedom, and the right to self-defense, among other individual freedoms.
