:But isn't that getting a little bit off the topic? We were talking about an eternal universe. I agree with you that such a thing doesn't make sense, but the point is that some believed it and I gather that some still do, so it is worth addressing.
:As for the "misunderstanding", perhaps (and I'm speculating here) the editor who put in the bit about thermodynamics is arguing that the 2nd law indicates that the universe had a beginning (with which you agree) and that this could only be by a supernatural creation. Thus putting those two points together, the 2nd law points to a supernatural creation. This without bringing "increasing disorder" into the equation.
