Taking a cue from [https://www.conservapedia.com/index.php?title=Template:Officeholder&action=edit this template's source code], it turned out that the extraneous pipe resulted from <code><nowiki>{{!}}</nowiki></code>, so I removed it and added <code><br/></code>.
