When Jimbo bought out out the software component and took over, Jimbo made it an "open editing" project. Sanger, like Andy Schlalfy, didn't believe in "open editing" and wanted "experts'", hence Citizendium (the name is an oxymoron, cause it's not open to all citizens but only élite "experts").
