Currently, New England is a stronghold for liberals and atheists that tends to vote Democratic at the local, state, and national levels.

Currently, there is only one Republican member of the House of Representatives from New England: Christopher Shays of Connecticut.  Both US Senators from Maine are Republicans: Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins <ref>http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm?State=ME</ref>. In addition, both Senators from New Hampshire are also Republicans: John E Sununu and Judd Greg<ref>http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm?State=NH</ref>.
