This article is very limited and, arguably, out-of-date. I am much minded to replace it with an article describing at least the three-to-four distinct present meanings of 'equity' that I'm aware of - most obviously stock/share-holding of public companies and, by extension, so-called 'stake-holding' in public institutions, endeavors, and enterprises. :I agree, this could use some improvement. I suggest adding the modern, common definitions, and writing a good into, but keeping the existing text somewhere on the page. Definitions include stocks as you mentioned, housing, and the political concept of equalized outcomes.
