Talk:Equity
From Conservapedia
This article is very limited and, arguably, out-of-date. I am much minded to replace it with an article describing at least the three-to-four distinct present meanings of 'equity' that I'm aware of - most obviously stock/share-holding of public companies and, by extension, so-called 'stake-holding' in public institutions, endeavors, and enterprises. Any objections? -J Psircleback (talk) 17:11, July 26, 2021 (EDT)
- I agree, this could use some improvement. I suggest adding the modern, common definitions, and writing a good into, but keeping the existing text somewhere on the page. Definitions include stocks as you mentioned, housing, and the political concept of equalized outcomes. Does this sound good to everyone? --DavidB4 (TALK) 17:40, July 26, 2021 (EDT)
- Great ideas! Please add as you think best.--Andy Schlafly (talk) 18:20, July 26, 2021 (EDT)
- Having described equity finance, my plan is to stretch over to the political meaning(s) via German-style industrial democracy, and develop the other senses from there. There's a great variety now, in political discourse - so plenty of room for obfuscation. It's absolutely clear to me that the leftists are up to all their usual linguistic tricks, damn their hides. -J Psircleback (talk) 11:01, July 27, 2021 (EDT)
- Having worked-in David's housing (sense of) equity I'm now pretty well-positioned to address the political senses. So far I/we seem to have thought of: equality (opportunity, outcome), justice/fairness/so-called social justice, stake-holding, as well as the more dubious recent usages - about which I intend to cite Shelby Steele's WSJ article on the subject (Feb 12th '21) and/or subsequent interview on the very first Ben Domenech Podcast where 41 minutes in he straightforwardly equates (racial) equity with good old-fashioned black power. -J Psircleback (talk) 13:38, August 5, 2021 (EDT)
