''The Quiet Man'' (1952) is a [[movie]] loved by Irish Americans for its real footage of the countryside, cottages, and train station in [[Ireland]], but disliked by many Irish in the old country for its unfavorable portrayal of them.

Starring [[John Wayne]], the director [[John Ford]] sought for 20 years to make a movie about his homeland (his real last name was "Feeney"). He won an [[Academy Award]] for best director for his effort in making this film.
